Classes & Subjects

Before adding students or marking attendance, you need to set up your school’s class structure. This includes creating classes, adding sections under each class, and defining the subjects taught.

Creating a Class

  1. Go to Academics → Classes
  2. Click Add Class
  3. Enter the Class Name (e.g., Class 1, Class 6, Nursery, LKG, UKG)
  4. Optionally enter a numeric order so classes sort correctly (e.g., LKG = 0, UKG = 1, Class 1 = 2)
  5. Click Save
Repeat this for all classes in your school (e.g., Nursery through Class 12).
Use consistent naming throughout. If you name it “Class 1”, do not also create “Std 1” — pick one convention and stick with it. This affects how reports and fee structures are displayed.

Adding Sections to a Class

If your school has multiple divisions (A, B, C) under a class:
  1. Open the class by clicking its name
  2. Under Sections, click Add Section
  3. Enter the section name (e.g., A, B, C or Rose, Lotus, Jasmine)
  4. Click Save
Repeat for each section. You can add or remove sections at any time during the academic year.
If your school has only one division per class, you can either skip sections entirely or create a single section called “A”. Students can be assigned to the class without a section.

Assigning a Class Teacher

  1. Open the class (or section)
  2. In the Class Teacher field, select a teacher from the dropdown
  3. Click Save
The class teacher will be able to see all students in that class/section in their Teacher Portal.

Creating Subjects

Subjects are created globally and then assigned to specific classes.

Step 1: Create the Subject

  1. Go to Academics → Subjects
  2. Click Add Subject
  3. Enter:
    • Subject Name (e.g., Mathematics, Hindi, Environmental Studies)
    • Subject Code (optional, e.g., MATH01)
    • Type — Theory or Practical
  4. Click Save

Step 2: Assign a Subject to a Class

  1. Go to Academics → Classes and open a class
  2. Under Subjects, click Add Subject
  3. Select the subject from the dropdown
  4. Optionally assign a Subject Teacher
  5. Set the maximum marks for this subject (used in exam results)
  6. Click Save
You can assign the same subject (e.g., Mathematics) to multiple classes. The subject teacher can be different per class.

Viewing the Class Overview

When you click on a class, you see a complete overview:

Managing the Academic Year

At the end of the year, you can bulk-promote students to the next class (see Student Management). Class and subject structures can then be updated for the new academic year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I delete a class that already has students? No. You must transfer or deactivate all students in a class before deleting it. Micron will show an error if you attempt to delete a class with active students. Can I rename a class? Yes. Click the Edit (pencil) icon next to the class name, update it, and save. The change reflects everywhere automatically. What is the difference between a Subject Type: Theory and Practical? It is for your reference and for report card generation. Practical subjects can have separate marks columns in the mark entry screen. How many sections can I add to a class? There is no hard limit. Add as many sections as your school needs.
